Help “BEASTIE” Advance the Gospel in PNG

May 5, 2022

Whether traversing lofty mountains covered in thick jungle vine, off-roading around crumbled bridges collapsed after frequent earthquakes and mudslides, or crossing one of the world’s most expansive swamps, Papua New Guinea’s extreme terrains have created huge infrastructure challenges for missionaries. For more than 25 years, God has empowered FIA’s field leaders and shipping department to see mission-critical cargo get to frontline Gospel workers in some of the most remote locations on earth. Now, YOU can give to create even greater inroads to see that NOTHING separates unreached people from receiving the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!

“Beasties” Arrival In PNG

A 1969 SIX-WHEEL-DRIVE EX-MILITARY TRUCK AND TRAILER

Giving to support FIA’s outreach ministries in PNG means you are providing for one of the core processes that makes ministry possible for hundreds of missionaries and partner organizations. Just one example of a high-impact shipment was the arrival of “Beastie” to FIA’s strategically-located base of operations in PNG.

Field leaders Mike and Ruth Butler needed a way to transport larger items to the river for distribution to missionaries serving in the bush. Heavy items like cement, water tanks, and building materials were too much for a standard truck capable of holding only a fraction of the necessary supplies and would easily get stuck in the 3-feet of mud on the way to the water’s edge. Gospel workers were desperate for those materials essential to building their homes, churches, schools, and clinics. God’s solution was a 1969. ix-wheel-drive ex-military truck and trailer which was endearingly dubbed as “Beastie”!

Far from the college care packages that might come to mind when thinking of sending missionary ministry materials, Beastie was too big to fit in a regular-sized shipping container and too costly to ship separately. Instead, two 40-foot wide containers were placed on their side, Beastie and all of his accessories were slid in, and then the container was tipped right-side-up to prepare for delivery! And what a welcome Beastie had! Quite a crowd of villagers gathered to watch the spectacle of his arrival at the wharf.

Life-Changing Impacts

HAULING MISSION-CRITICAL SUPPLIES TO THE FRONTLINES

Beastie and the materials shipped with him were essential to dozens, if not hundreds, of supply runs encouraging missionaries to push to the ends of the earth with the Good News! Beastie traversed over 12 hours of rugged terrain to deliver water tanks serving churches planted over many miles across 100+ villages! He hauled a radio tower along the razorback ridge of a nearby mountain enabling Christian music and Bible teaching to be broadcast to thousands! After Beastie’s initial 4 hours of trucking, supplies went by boat for another 6-8 hours, and were then hand-carried to a building site – all to support the construction of a medical clinic, several school buildings, and even a bridge to bless more than 5,000 villagers in a remote swampland region!

How You Can Help

TRAVERSING THE HEIGHTS & DEPTHS OF PNG TO SHARE HEAVEN

FIA partners and friends like you can play a critical role in the Great Commission by giving to see missionaries supported through essential cargo. These items are so much more than just “stuff”! These materials save lives through medical and food provision, as well as bring the precious Word of God to those who have never heard by delivering literature and ministry helps.

With a goal of $10,000, even smaller donations of $25 or $100 can accomplish so much to support missionaries ministering to the last, the least, and lost in PNG. Thank you for being part of traversing the heights and depths of PNG’s terrain to ensure that NOTHING stands in the way of more villagers hearing about the amazing love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!
