Impenetrable. That was what the mainland jungle was like the first time we met the Rama people in Nicaragua. That was the challenge we faced when they asked us to help them expand their community in response to our question, “How can we help?”
Untouched, uncleared, dense, and oppressive, the jungle represented both the physical reality of what we were up against and the spiritual condition of the heart of the Rama people.
But little by little, each year, we have cleared land and helped the Rama establish new houses with access to clean water and space to grow food. The jungle changes each year, and light and growth find their way into what was once darkness.

Our Main Goal!
Though supporting the necessities for life is important, our main goal at FIA is to demonstrate the love of God so that the people might genuinely know and experience the new life found in the love of Christ.
Building these houses and developing the ‘Spring of Living Water’ (SLW) community for the Rama has been the means for us to develop deep relationships with the Rama people, giving us access to their hearts. As our mission partners share Creation to Christ, we pray that by God’s grace they will recognize and experience His unconditional love, patience, and provision reflected in the ways we practically serve them.

Aurelio (Left) and Alejandra (Right), a Rama couple now living in the SLW community, reflected on the change:
We used to live deep in the jungle on the island, and we went to church only to sit on a bench and not understand what was being said. We were far from God and did not know the truth. After moving to the new community and building our house, we were taught about the Word of God and accepted Christ. Now we know what the Bible says and how to live. I’m happy because I have Christ in my heart.”
